Energy Evaluation

An energy evaluation consists in having an energy efficiency advisor mandated by the ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune come to your home to analyze and go over every aspect affecting the energy efficiency of your home.

Other useful information:

What does an advisor do during the first evaluation?

During the first evaluation, the energy efficiency advisor asks you questions and tours your house in order to conduct a complete visual analysis. This evaluation enables the advisor to consider certain aspects of your home:

  • the location and exterior of the house (foundation, chimney, exterior wall cladding, doors and windows, ground slope, drainage, etc.);
  • the interior structure of the house (foundation walls, floors, framework, structural elements, walls, etc.);
  • the insulation and airtightness of the house;
  • the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems;
  • the energy consumption habits (hot water, lighting, and household appliances).

The energy efficiency advisor will also conduct a blower door test when visiting your home.

Following this visit, the advisor will send you a detailed evaluation report which indicates the EnerGuide rating of your home.

How much do the two evaluations cost?

The Rénoclimat program offers the two energy evaluations of your home at a very competitive rate. Enjoy the preferential rate reserved for the participants of the Rénoclimat program instead of paying the real cost of the evaluation.

How do I get a first appointment?

Only an energy efficiency advisor mandated by the Department can conduct the Rénoclimat energy evaluation of your home.

1-866-266-0008Call us at 1-866-266-0008 to receive the contact information of an advisor who is available in your area.

The first energy evaluation of your home must be conducted before you start your renovations. Renovation work undertaken before the first energy evaluation does not make you eligible to receive financial assistance under the Rénoclimat program.

How do I get a post-renovation evaluation?

To get your second energy evaluation, you can directly contact the advisor who conducted your first evaluation. You will find the advisor’s contact information in your evaluation report. Do not forget to mention your file number.

You can also contact us at 1-866-266-0008 if your advisor is no longer available.

18-MONTH TIME LIMITThe second evaluation must take place once the renovation work is completed and within 18 months from the date of the first evaluation.

Why should I ask for an energy evaluation when I already know what kind of renovations I want carried out?

Take advantage of having an energy efficiency advisor in your home to discuss your renovation project. You may even get advice on critical work you may not have considered.

  • For example: You are planning to replace your windows. The advisor could recommend that you seal them more effectively ... and insulate your attic space instead!

Your advisor will be able to prioritize your renovations to help you capitalize on energy savings.

Check with your advisor if the renovations you are planning to make appear on the list of non-eligible work. Renovation work appearing on this list does not make you eligible to receive Rénoclimat financial assistance.

Your evaluation report can also be used as a reference when discussing your project with a contractor.

Did you know?Air infiltrations in a home are often ignored. The evaluation report on the energy performance of your home contains recommendations and reduction targets for these infiltrations. If you reach or exceed your target, you could receive between $150 and $300 in additional financial assistance.
