What is Rénoclimat®?

Rénoclimat® is an energy-saving renovation program for homes offered by the Agence de l’efficacité énergétique.

  • The program starts with an energy efficiency advisor who comes to your home to evaluate its energy performance.
  • Then the advisor provides you with an evaluation report that will help you identify the renovations to prioritize to improve the comfort level of your home and reduce your energy bill.
  • Once the work is completed, the advisor will return to your home to validate the improvement of your home’s energy performance. You can then choose to participate in the Rénoclimat® financial assistance program and receive an amount which may vary based on the nature of the renovation work completed, and in many cases, on the surface area of the work.

Five easy steps to follow

Here are the 5 steps to follow to participate in the Rénoclimat® program:

  • Step 1 – Schedule an appointment for the first energy evaluation before you start renovating

The program starts with an energy evaluation of your home. The evaluation is conducted by an energy efficiency advisor mandated by the AEE. You may discuss your renovation plans and your concerns regarding your home’s energy consumption with the advisor as well as get answers to any questions you might have.

This evaluation must be conducted before you start the renovation work.

This first evaluation is conducted before the work starts and costs $299.95 for a single-family home but it will only cost you $149.95* because the AEE pays the difference. This rate applies to most standard-sized homes.

For duplexes, the evaluation conducted before the renovation work is valued at $499.95 but it will only cost you $299.95*. The AEE will pay the difference for you.

For triplexes, the evaluation before renovation work is valued at $599.95 but it will only cost you $349.95*.

Dial 1-866-266-0008 to schedule an appointment.

*Cost for a standard-sized home, plus taxes. A supplementary cost may apply to larger sized homes (single-family, duplex, and triplex). Should this occur, the AEE will not grant additional assistance; the amounts granted by the AEE appear as listed above.

  • Step 2 – Receive your evaluation report

After visiting your home, the advisor will forward you the evaluation report of your home which indicates the energy rating of your home based on the EnerGuide scale (EnerGuide rating).

This report details alls the renovations that could be carried out to improve the energy perfromance of your home. It also specifies the order of priority and potential savings of the work. It is an excellent tool to identify the work you need to carry out to save energy.

  • Step 3 – Renovate

You can contract out the renovation work or do it yourself. Keep all of your receipts and documents that prove that the renovations were carried out. These documents may come in handy during the second evaluation. You can also take photographs before and after the work to show that the work was carried out.

  • Step 4 – Ask for a second evaluation once the work is completed

The second energy evaluation must be carried within 18 months of the date of your first evaluation.

The second energy evaluation serves to validate if the work was carried out and if it helped to improve your EnerGuide rating.

The second evaluation is free of charge if the EnerGuide rating of your home increases by 2 points or more. If this is not the case, you will be charged $149.95 plus taxes (rate for a standard house).

It is important to remember that you are responsible for setting an appointment with your advisor to receive your second evaluation. Plan ahead! Don’t wait until the last minute…

  • Step 5 – Receive financial assistance

To have access to financial assistance under the Rénoclimat® program, the renovations recommended in the evaluation report must have been carried out in their entirety or partially.

The amount of financial assistance provided by the Rénoclimat® program is established on the basis of the work actually carried out and observed during the second energy evaluation. This amount varies according to the source of energy used by your main heating system.

You are eligible to AEE financial assistance if the EnerGuide rating of your home improves by 2 points or more.
