The institutional sector in Québec encompasses public and private heath, social services and education networks. It includes more than 4,500 buildings, and every year consumes some $370 million of energy. The potential energy savings for this sector are estimated at over 10% of total consumption. Approximately $37 million could thus be allocated to other productive uses if energy efficient measures or investments produce the desired effects.
A substantial amount of money is spent on energy by the health, social services and education sectors. The possibility of reducing that amount by $37 million every year, and concern for energy management that respects the environment, are factors that make for favourable conditions for the success of this Agence de l’efficacité énergétique (AEE) initiative.
