Industrial sector energy snapshot

Energy consumption in the industrial and commercial sectors accounts for more than half (53.7%) of the energy consumed in Québec, with industry at 36.1% and the commercial sector at 17.6%. The biggest industries account for 70% of consumption in the industrial sector and 25.4% of overall energy consumption in Québec. These industries are pulp and paper, iron and steel, smelting and refining, cement and chemical products.

Greenhouse gas emissions

In Québec, the industrial sector accounts for 26.4% of greenhouse gas emissions. Proportionately, greenhouse gas emissions for this sector are less than its energy consumption.
